University Lecturer or University Teacher for industrial engineering and management (1-4 positions)

University of Turku expands its educational activities of the Faculty of Technology with Industrial Engineering and Management degree program in the fall 2024. Hence, we are now opening 1-4 positions of University Lecturer/University Teacher in the unit of industrial engineering and management at the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department. We are a new, ambitious unit that seeks to establish groundbreaking new lines of research and education.

The positions will be filled as negotiated with the suitable candidates and these are permanent positions.

The tasks for all positions include educational activities in industrial engineering and management at BSc, MSc and DSc levels including supervision of thesis work and participating in research work. University Lecturer position in addition includes educational planning and development, independent research work, preparation of research projects and overall societal activities and influence. We expect selected candidates also to participate in other activities of the unit, department and faculty as needed.

Preliminary subject areas for teaching tasks (four different profiles, between which the teaching topics can be specified and agreed also differently if need be):

- General industrial engineering and management: e.g. sustainable organizing and development of activities; coordination of joint seminars on industrial engineering and management, etc. course implementation

- Sustainable recycling: e.g. decision making and management for sustainable development, modelling of dynamic systems and computing

- Process management and development: e.g. responsible and sustainable management of operations, activities, production, processes, quality and performance

- Management and development of business networks: e.g. responsible and sustainable management of stakeholder relations, supply networks and business environment, including in international business

Research and other tasks may be tailored to the candidate's wishes and based on joint discussions.


Who we are looking for

Requirements 

We work in an international research environment and fluency in Finnish is seen as an advantage. Fluent oral and written English skills are required in these positions.

Applicants should have a proven track record in teaching and educational development, scientific research activity, fundraising and the ability to work with businesses in teaching and/or research. Knowledge of the Finnish education system and international cooperation will be considered an advantage. If candidates do not have previous experience in the content areas of teaching, motivation and commitment to subject development will be considered an advantage.

The qualification requirements for the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure. A person selected for the post of University Lecturer is required to have an appropriate doctoral degree, and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses are required of persons selected for the post of university lecturer. When assessing the merits of the applicants, scholarly work, practical expertise in the field in question if necessary, teaching experience and teacher training, ability to produce study materials, other teaching merits, and a teaching demonstration will be taken into account.

A person selected for the post of University Teacher is required to have an applicable higher university degree and good teaching skills. When assessing the merits of the applicants, extensive competence in the field in question, teacher training, the ability to produce study materials and the ability to provide multifaceted teaching as well as teaching demonstration will be taken into account.

Salary and trial period

The salaries are determined in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel and the salary is at levels 4–7 on the job demands chart. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The total salary depends on the education and skills of the person selected.

There is a trial period of six (6) months.

Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering is a unique combination of mechanical engineering, materials engineering and industrial engineering and management with contemporary research and teaching.
