In September 2018, the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) open its doors to the public. The LLC houses the university library that serves as an integral part of the University mission to support academic excellence and innovation. Our library is a hub for students, faculty, and researchers seeking a vast array of knowledge resources.

The LLC is recruiting a dedicated and experienced librarian to manage our International Library Loans and Document Delivery Service and so providing members of the University of Luxembourg access to any documentary resource that is not in the LLC’s collections or available electronically in our catalogue. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the interlibrary loan process, ensuring efficient and timely access to resources from libraries around the world to support the scholarly and research needs of our community. This position is a user-centered role and so it intended for a professional with an interpersonal approach and a clear customer focused perspective.

Your Role...

Assigned to the Collection Development Team, in the Resource & Technical Services of the LLC, you will be in charge of:

  • Carry out and oversee daily operations of the International Library Loans and Document Delivery Service.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with national and international libraries and consortia to ensure robust resource sharing.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the efficiency of the loan and delivery systems, implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Providing customer service, assisting users with loan requests and enquiries, and ensuring satisfaction with the service provided.
  • Performing in-depth search, utilizing various library and world-wide sources by using bibliographic search techniques to locate requested materials.
  • Preparing regular reports on the usage, delivery time, and customer satisfaction related to the service.
  • Keeping updated of developments in interlibrary loan practices and technologies and integrate innovative solutions to enhance service delivery.
  • Overseeing allocated budgets for the provision of the services and engage in negotiations with providers and partners.
  • Coordinating with other colleagues from the Collection Development Team to acquire and increase the accessibility and visibility of resources at the LLC.
  • Monitoring and developing the LLC course resource list tool (CourseReady) to streamline access to course materials by students.
  • Engaging and training the professors to make their recommended course reading lists available and accessible for their students via Moodle and our online catalogue.
  • Collaborating with other library services to support the overall mission of the LLC.

What we expect from you…

  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information/Documentation Science or equivalent by work experience.
  • Several years of experience in an academic library, with experience of 1 year in a similar position preferred.
  • Experience with library management systems (knowledge of Alma and Leganto being an advantage), interlibrary loan platforms and standard office software.
  • Strong understanding of current trends within academic libraries.
  • Possesses outstanding coordination skills to effectively manage and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and engaging communication style that promotes collaboration.
  • Fluent in English and French (spoken & written). German and/or Luxembourgish language knowledge is a plus.
