The Cologne Cluster of Excellence Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases (CECAD) is a unique research venture of the University of Cologne, the Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and for Metabolism Research and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), integrating over 50 research groups. The mission of CECAD is to define the common and unique molecular and cellular mechanisms how individuals age using different models (single molecule to organism), model organisms (yeast to human) to identify novel interventions that promote healthy ageing and prevent age-related disease.

YOUR TASKS
» Build up and lead a successful research team
» Build up an internationally visible research programme in areas central to aging and aging-associated diseases that strengthen and complement ongoing research in CECAD
» Willingness to further advance and build an open, welcoming environment that promotes diversity at all levels
» Interest in teaching and advancing innovation in teaching would be an advantage


YOUR PROFILE
» A MD or Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, preferentially with postdoctoral experience and an outstanding track record for current career stage in topics related to the main research areas of CECAD (see https://www.cecad.uni-koeln.de/research/research-areas)
» Research profile with possibility to strengthen local research consortia that focus on mitochondria (SFB 1218), cell death and inflammation in disease (SFB 1403, SFB TRR 1607), genome instability (FOR5504), fidelity of mRNA and protein biosynthesis (SFB 1678), and immunity and tissue re-de-generation and align with the research strategy of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
» Areas of particular interest are transgenerational and sex-specific mechanisms of aging and its diseases, molecular, inter-tissue communication, including central nervous control, and environmental determinants of organismal aging and disease, chronic and acute stress, and co-morbidities in cell, tissue and organismal aging and its diseases

The position is available immediately on a full-time basis (39,83 hours per week). It is limited for 5 years with a potential extension of 2 more years.
