Based in the Department of Art & Performance, in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester School of Theatre (MST) is one of the UK's leading centres for teaching and research in theatre and performance. Our provision alongside the BA (Hons) Acting programme includes BA (Hons) Drama and Contemporary Performance, MA/MFA Performance and an active Performance research centre with multiple PhD students.  

We are looking to recruit to a range of posts at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level in BA (Hons) Acting, a University-based Federation of Drama Schools accredited programme with a long history in nurturing talent development through our intensive actor training delivery model. Our work ranges from stage- and screen-focused actor training to devised performance and practice as research, and we have strong links with the Manchester-area cultural community and theatre groups around the world.   

About the role: 

We are looking for various Lecturer and Senior Lecturer posts to support the BA (Hons) Acting programme from January 2024 onwards. This teaching would take place at our central Manchester campus. There are multiple fractional and full-time posts available. 

The roles we are looking to fill include: 

  • Specialist teaching input into various aspects of the BA (Hons) Acting programme (see our current prospectus for full curriculum details).
  • Experience of delivering and assessing units within Higher Education, using Virtual Learning Environments, attending staff meetings, etc.
  • Experience in taking on administrative and support roles in teaching and research including programme leadership, working towards research and/or pedagogy development in a relevant area.
  • Personal tutoring, pastoral and employability support.
  • Casting and planning work towards third year and other productions.
  • Contribution to management processes both within the Department of Art & Performance and the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

About you: 

Essential Key skills: 

  • Experience teaching on an undergraduate Acting programme.
  • Experience of leadership roles or equivalent in previous employment (Senior Lecturer applications only).
  • In depth understanding of the pedagogy of actor training.
  • Highly organised with an understanding of delivering an intensive practice course within the structures and systems of a larger University or other
  • Experienced in marking and giving feedback on acting performances at all levels of an undergraduate actor training.

Desirable: 

  • Previously worked as an actor, director or practitioner in the Industry.
  • Working with differently abled students and designing ways for them to engage meaningfully with the Programme.
  • The ability to represent the programme and MST to the public in an ambassadorial role.
