YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

In gas flowmeter applications based on acoustic time-of-flight (ToF) measurements, the device working range and measurement accuracy can be strongly affected by the relative humidity and in worse cases condensation. Various coating and packaging strategies can be used to try and seal the acoustic micromachined sensor from the water molecules or droplets that might hinder its function. The thesis consists in characterization and experimental validation of the various coating strategies for ensuring proper function of acoustic MEMS sensors in humid environments.

The main tasks consist of:

  • Literature review on coating materials and characteristics for MEMS sensors
  • Design and numerical validation of coating strategies
  • Experimental characterization of coated sensor performance (sensitivity, bandwidth) using electrical, mechanical and acoustic characterization
  • Data processing

YOUR PROFILE

  • Master student in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Applied Physics or similar.
  • Basic experience with electronic laboratory equipment (e.g. oscilloscope) and measurements.
  • Experience in data and signal processing and evaluation.
  • Good knowledge in either Python / Matlab.
  • Self-organized and target-oriented working style.
  • Good oral and written English skills.
